1st generation farm

Tamarak Mango Estate is a first generation farm, started in 2005 by co-owners Bernie van den Heever and Dirk Visser. Bernie gained extensive experience in the field of mango cultivation from 1997 - 2004 and planted the first mango trees on Tamarak in 2005 on virgin soil. New trees have been planted every year since.

Healthy climate

The climate of Clanwilliam and the surrounding Cederberg area is excellent for mango cultivation. Hot, dry summers inhibit pest infestations and allow us to grow healthy fruit. Shade netting, which covers 50% plus of the trees, protects fruit from sun damage during the hottest months of the year.

LARGEST WESTERN CAPE MANGO FARM

At present 69ha of mango trees are in production, making Tamarak Mango Estate the largest mango farm in the Western Cape.

We are also currently devoloping a new 75ha farm outside Klawer, which will further expand and strengthen our agricultural operations in the region. To date, 25ha of mangoes have been planted, with plans to increase the mango orchards to aproximately 60ha. In addition, 5ha of granadillas have been established, along with a 10ha avocado trial to evaluate the crop's potential under local conditions.

A key benefit of this new farm will be its contribution to our mango production programme, helping us extend the mango harvesting season by aproximately six weeks. this will allow us to apply quality mangoes over a longer period and further enhance the consistency and scale of our production.
